sometimes they let me hand out the paychecks at work. most people would find this tedious, but i think it's sooooo much fun. usually i walk around handing out the checks and take the time to say thank you to each person. well, yesterday the paychecks came early so i had a little extra time to devise a handout procedure. i took various color markers and wrote a little note on each check...
"Great job" "Good Work" "Awesome" "Woohoo"
and for Amber's "Bones for a Big Mac"
There was a check in the pile for a name I didn't recognize but we've had a temp working in accounting for a couple weeks and I assumed it was her and wrote "Great work!"
i delivered each check one by one and then took the "Great work!" check down to the Controller's office. i asked her "this is our temps name right?" pointing at the name on the check. she started to laugh and replied "no, that's ellen, she works in another building and has been out on sick leave for 6 weeks." we both starting roaring with laughter. this is unbelievable. only i would write "Great work!" on a sick woman's check.
ofcourse i'm totally mortified and embarassed. but how do you recover from that? white-out?

that totally brought the LOLs.
someone brought up whiteout yesterday at swim practice so i casually told that story.
thanks for making me seem cool/popular/funny.
I am crushed. I thought the notes were sincere and personal and did not know you were making such a mockery of a very personl note
